Voluntary Action North Somerset (VANS) are champions of the local non-profit sector. They have supported the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) sector for over 25 years – helping create a connected, inclusive and thriving community for all.

Their vision is a world where individuals and organisations are empowered and everyone feels connected and engaged. To achieve this, VANS provide guidance, advice, and training to Charities, community groups and social enterprises. They enable leadership development and encourage partnerships and collaborations that strengthen the non-profit sector. The Charity also grows volunteering and community involvement, and oversees projects that address the needs of the nonprofit sector.

The organisation is seeking a Trustee who can drive positive change for the North Somerset community. Trustees direct the affairs of VANS, ensuring it has a clear vision, mission and direction. They are strategically responsible for the organisation’s leadership, ensuring decisions are made in the Charity’s best interests and that legal obligations are met.

As a Trustee, you’ll have opportunities for personal growth and professional development. You will be able to develop new skills, expand your knowledge, and work alongside a dedicated group of Trustees who share your passion for the sector. This role provides valuable insights into governance, strategy and leadership that can be applied to a variety of settings. You will also have opportunities to connect with a diverse network of professionals.

VANS are particularly interested in individuals who have experience in: Finance, Human Resources, Business Connections or Digital Systems. They hope to hear from strategic thinkers, skilled at leading, managing and inspiring others. They will demonstrate good, independent judgment, alongside the ability to look ahead and focus on the bigger picture. The ideal candidate will have governance experience within the non-profit sector and an understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship. Furthermore, they will be committed to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, alongside the non-profit sector and the North Somerset community.
