Home-Start is a community network that supports families with young children going through challenging times. It’s well documented that a happy and secure childhood helps children to achieve their full potential. Home-Start UK is a national Charity, consisting of 180 independent organisations which support families within their community. Home-Start Bristol and South Gloucestershire (HSBSG) has been supporting local families for over 30 years. This community-rooted organisation aims to make a lasting impact on children’s development and improve family wellbeing.

Through trained volunteer teams and expert guidance, HSBSG helps families with children under five find solutions to challenges. They work to build parents' resilience and improve their emotional well-being, which benefits the entire family. The Charity also encourages parents to participate in community activities and services, aiming to reduce stress and foster connections.

HSBSG is undergoing a transformational period, as they attempt to reach more families while improving the delivery of support. They are developing corporate and community fundraising capabilities, collaborating with other local Charities and striving to increase inclusivity. The organisation is seeking a Chair of the Board and a Trustee who can help achieve these objectives.

The Chair of the Board is responsible for developing the organisation’s culture and strategic direction. They provide strong leadership to the Board of Trustees, which oversees the Charity’s governance and activities. Ensuring the Board’s continuous development, the Chair arranges training and evaluation for Trustees. They also supervise the Chief Executive and act as a representative for HSBSG when necessary. The successful candidate will be supported by skilled Trustees and a passionate staff team, meaning that previous governance experience is not required. They will also receive guidance and advice from Home-Start UK.

The Treasurer oversees HSBSG’s financial affairs, ensuring the Charity remains economically viable and compliant with all relevant regulations. They protect and manage Charity assets and ensure that resources are utilised appropriately and in pursuit of organisational objectives. Furthermore, the Treasurer has general Trustee responsibilities, helping mould Home-Start’s strategic direction while providing governance and oversight.

The successful candidates for both roles will share Home-Start’s values and be passionate about helping children reach their full potential. These are fantastic opportunities to govern an impactful local charity while supporting families in Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
