St Margaret's Hospice Care is a community-funded charity based in Somerset. For over four decades, the organisation has been an integral part of the local community, supporting adults of all ages who are facing a life-limiting illness or require end-of-life care. They provide compassionate and specialised palliative care, free of charge, to patients and their families when they need it most. Operating within a population of approximately 520,000 people, St Margaret’s Hospice Care maintains the belief that every individual deserves tailored and dignified care, allowing them to focus on living well until the end.
The charity is currently undertaking a five-year strategic journey designed to address future challenges. This strategy honours the organisation's history while incorporating past lessons to safeguard hospice care in Somerset for future generations. The new plan will help ensure St Margaret’s Hospice Care is responding to the community's evolving needs and delivering the best possible level of care. It also seeks innovative ways to resource and fund hospice care for the next 45 years and beyond.
During the strategy’s initial year, the organisation began reshaping its approach to hospice care, placing a stronger emphasis on community-based delivery, digital innovation, and collaborative partnership working across the health and care system. The next phase will focus on embedding these new models, broadening access, and ensuring equitable care throughout Somerset. St Margaret’s is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to lead this transformation and champion a bold vision for compassionate, equitable, and sustainable end-of-life care.
As CEO, you will:
● Provide visible and value-driven leadership, embedding purpose, compassion, and innovation.
● Build a culture of belonging and excellence where every colleague and volunteer feels valued and supported.
● Implement a dynamic strategic plan that reimagines hospice care for a changing world.
● Ensure financial sustainability through prudent stewardship, strategic investment, and transparent accountability.
● Represent St Margaret’s as a trusted partner and influential voice across the NHS, social care, voluntary, and community sectors.
The successful candidate will be a visionary leader who demonstrates courage, empathy and authenticity. They will be a systems thinker who connects strategy to community impact and balances compassion with performance. The CEO will be an inspiring ambassador of the hospice movement and a strong advocate for equity, dignity and inclusion.
