Could your governance experience help shape the future of Redcliffe?
This is an exciting time for Redcliffe Community Voice. We have a strong foundation of community and youth work, and an emerging five-year vision. Our current trustees all live in Redcliffe and bring first-hand knowledge of the area - community strengths and the changes local people want to see. We are looking for an experienced governance leader to develop leadership, challenge and support to a new board of resident trustees as they develop their collective confidence.
As we establish ourselves as an independent charity developed from the existing youth and community work at St Mary Redcliffe Church, we are looking for a Vice Chair who can help the board develop its governance, strengthen its strategic leadership and ensure that the organisation remains accountable to the community it exists to serve.
St Mary Redcliffe PCC currently holds several significant grants, which will transfer to Redcliffe Community Voice as the charity becomes established. You will bring an independent perspective, while building a positive relationship with the church and other key partners to manage the transfer of responsibility and power.
We are particularly interested in hearing from people who bring experience of charity governance and board leadership. We want to combine the lived experience and local knowledge of our trustees with the skills, experience and perspective of someone who can help us build a strong, effective and sustainable organisation.
Why RCV?
Redcliffe is a diverse and vibrant community, but local people have not always had a strong voice in decisions about the area. RCV has grown through a process of wide-scale survey, follow-up community meetings, community action and is now developing into an independent community organisation led by local residents.
This is an opportunity to help shape a new organisation at an important point in its development - bringing governance experience and thoughtful challenge while ensuring that the organisation's direction continues to be shaped by the people who live here.
What you’ll do
Support the Chair to lead the board of trustees and ensure effective governance in an inclusive, respectful way
Work with trustees, staff, and partners to set RCV’s vision and priorities
Support the board to ask the right questions, make good decisions and develop its confidence
Represent RCV publicly as an ambassador
What we’re looking for
Leadership that values listening and fairness
Strategic thinking and ability to see the bigger picture
Experience chairing meetings or leading teams
Experience of charity governance, ideally as a trustee, Chair, Non-Executive Director or senior leader
An understanding of the responsibilities of charity trustees and what makes an effective board
Commitment to equality, accessibility, and positive change
