Jessie May is an award-winning Charity with a national reputation for providing outstanding nursing care and emotional support to children with life-limiting conditions, delivered in the place they and their families value most, their own homes. They also support parents, siblings, and wider family members.
Since their foundation in 1996, the organisation has helped over 450 children and their families across the South West. They provide regular nursing care, palliative nursing, and bereavement support – all delivered by an exceptional team of specialist nurses. Over the last five years, they have experienced a significant increase in demand, requiring an expanded depth and reach of services.
The Charity is in a dynamic and ambitious phase of development. Their ‘No Place Like Home’ strategy, launched in 2022, has already led to the introduction of 24/7 palliative care and a broader range of holistic services to support families more effectively. They are now seeking a Chair of Trustees to help develop their next major strategy.
As Chair of Trustees, you will work closely with the CEO and board to provide strategic leadership, champion Jessie May’s values, and drive forward their mission. You will play a pivotal role in shaping their future, ensuring effective governance, and advocating for the Charity’s work.
Your key responsibilities will be:
● Lead the Board in achieving Jessie May’s mission and strategic objectives.
● Provide guidance and support to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team.
● Ensure effective governance and financial oversight.
● Act as a spokesperson and champion for Jessie May’s work.
● Support fundraising activities and events for families.
The successful candidate will be a strategic leader with experience chairing meetings and operating at a senior level. They will have inclusive communication skills and be able to advocate for Jessie May’s work through personal networks and social media. Collaborative advocacy and relationship-building skills are desirable, as is strategic clinical experience. Furthermore, the Chair will be passionate about Jessie May’s mission, and showcase a strong personal commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
This is a rare opportunity to lead a committed, mission-driven organisation and make a difference for families navigating the most difficult of journeys.
