Clevedon Pier and Heritage Trust is a Charity committed to preserving and promoting Clevedon Pier - the only Grade I listed Pier in England. Their tireless work is enabling this iconic structure to be enjoyed for generations to come. Initially opened in 1869, Clevedon Pier has a rich and fascinating history - it’s a focal point of pride for the North Somerset community and is celebrated by locals and visitors alike.

The Trust has overseen numerous developments which have significantly enhanced the visitor experience, establishing a visitor centre, restaurant, cafe and interactive exhibition - alongside a meeting room with unparalleled views. These major enhancements to the pier’s facilities have led to 100,000 visitors per year, enabling the Trust to fund the first elements of a long-term maintenance plan and earning the prestigious Pier of the Year award in 2021.

This community-led organisation has generated sufficient funds for the first five years of a twenty-year maintenance programme, totalling £2m. The operation is currently on firm financial footing, however, it’s crucial to maintain a financial surplus of £100,000 per year to ensure the maintenance is completed and the pier is fully preserved. The Charity is also aiming to further community interest in the history and heritage of Clevedon and its Pier. To assist them with this endeavour, they’re seeking a Chair of the Board of Directors.

The Chair will be vital in securing the future of the Pier. They will clarify the organisation’s strategic direction, and work alongside the senior leadership team to facilitate successful operational and financial performance. The successful candidate will lead the Board with honesty and integrity, whilst ensuring the Directors remain cohesive and focussed on their agenda.

They’re looking for an innovative individual, who can reinvigorate the Trust’s strategy with new ideas and different schools of thought. The Chair will have significant leadership experience, alongside strong interpersonal and communication skills. They will have a proven track record of committee work and be able to manage communications with the local community and press. The successful candidate will be adept at unlocking external sources of funding and liaising with key stakeholders. Furthermore, they will be committed to the values and principles of the Trust.
