(Closed) Caring in Bristol seeks CEO

Salary: c£60,000

Caring in Bristol is a local charity with a vision of a city empowered to solve homelessness. They provide year-round support to young people and adults who are either experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The organisation was founded in 1987 as Caring at Christmas, assisting people affected by homelessness during the festive season. This area of work is ongoing. Christmas 2023 saw their support service at Bristol’s Trinity Centre help over 500 people, with meals and gift hampers delivered to dozens more. In 2013, the Charity was renamed Caring in Bristol, reflecting the year-round assistance they provide the community.

Bristol faces an acute housing shortage, resulting from high property prices and insufficient social housing options. This crisis disproportionately affects young people, with a high proportion residing in temporary accommodation. The ongoing cost-of-living crisis further escalates the situation, pushing already vulnerable individuals towards the brink of homelessness. Consequently, support services like Caring in Bristol are experiencing an unprecedented surge in demand.

Caring in Bristol provide a wide range of support services to combat homelessness. These include:

  • Youth Services, such as one-to-one relationship-based support, helping young people achieve their full potential and access secure housing.

  • Community-led Services, for example, food clubs to tackle food poverty and social isolation

  • Early intervention work, providing support and housing advice to secure tenancies, whilst building knowledge and independence.

  • Building a movement for change in Bristol - raising awareness about housing insecurities and breaking down perceptions of homelessness

  • Distribution of the ‘Caring Handbook’ - A definitive guide on accessing homelessness support and services in Bristol.

  • In Spring 2024, they are opening an innovative new short-term accommodation centre to provide young people facing homelessness with somewhere free and safe to sleep 365 days a year.

Their mission is to end homelessness in Bristol, using models that can be applied on a national level. To help them achieve this, they’re seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The CEO will spearhead Caring in Bristol's journey, providing visionary leadership and crafting impactful strategic and operational plans. They will be an ambassador for the Charity, forging strong partnerships and cultivating sustainable business growth. As head of the Senior Leadership Team, the Chief Executive will oversee the operational management and day-to-day running of the Charity. They will inspire staff, volunteers, partners and supporters, encouraging them to be engaged and deliver strategic objectives. Moreover, they will manage the implementation of Caring in Bristol’s income generation and communications strategies, and work alongside the Board of Trustees on financial management and budgeting.

They are looking for a values-driven individual, with excellent communication and management skills. The ideal candidate will have leadership experience in a Charity or Non-profit organisation and a proven track record of strategy implementation. Furthermore, they will have strong financial skills and experience delivering cost/income targets. The successful candidate will share the organisational values, be passionate about social justice and strive to change Bristol for the better.
