Bristol Animal Rescue Centre (Bristol A.R.C) has been a lifeline for Bristol's animals for over 135 years. The organisation gives animals in need the compassion, care, and respect they deserve. Through their veterinary clinic, rehoming centre, and community outreach, they help thousands of animals every year. They also provide hands-on support and welfare advice to pet owners.

After more than a century of operating from their historic Albert Road site, Bristol A.R.C is preparing for relocation. The centre has been a refuge for stray and unwanted pets since 1901, but the surrounding St. Philip's Marsh area has changed dramatically. The organisation is now enveloped by heavy traffic, dust, and constant noise from nearby construction.

Bristol A.R.C are seeking a new Chair to guide them through this major transition. The successful candidate will work with the Board to lead the search for a new site and fundraise for the project.

As the new Chair, you'll have the chance to shape the organisation's strategy and support the teams that rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals. You will work with fellow Trustees to provide insightful governance, enabling the CEO and senior management to run the charity effectively. You will also optimise the relationship between the board and staff and represent the charity publicly, acting as a spokesperson and figurehead.

On behalf of Bristol A.R.C, we are seeking candidates with a keen sense of strategic purpose and experience as a Trustee or Non-Executive Director. The Chair will have an inclusive leadership style, inspiring and supporting everyone to participate on an equal footing. They will listen and engage effectively while fostering a collaborative board environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in property, construction, building works or development projects. They will be aligned with the organisation’s values and passionate about providing compassion, care and respect to animals.
