for The Green House
Moon Executive Search was approached by The Green House to find them a new CEO. They are a Bristol based charity which supports children, young people and families who have experienced sexual abuse. The Green House, which recently won the prestigious GSK/Kings Fund National Impact Award, offers a unique model of whole family support helping children, young people and their families and carers, recover from the trauma of child sexual abuse. They work across Avon and Somerset. The CEO role required a leader who had the vision, and leadership experience in the charity sector to take The Green House forward. The Trustees were also determined to find an exceptional individual with a real understanding of therapeutic care.
Led by Vanessa Moon, Founding Director, the search combined a targeted headhunting campaign with advertising to engage both active and passive candidates with the senior leadership experience.
The challenge
The successful candidate needed to demonstrate a rare combination of qualities; strategic focus, commercial acumen, the ability to build partnerships, have a background in therapy or support services paired with the emotional intelligence and empathy to connect with service users, families, carers and staff.
Our approach
Drawing on our extensive network across the charity and not-for-profit sectors, we were able to target exceptional candidates with more than traditional CEO credentials, assessing candidates not only on their leadership capability but also on their understanding of partnership working and the value of therapeutic care for vulnerable individuals.
This approach enabled us to present a strong shortlist of candidates who met the strategic requirements of the role whilst also aligning with The Green House’s culture and purpose.
The appointment
Following a competitive process, Katherine Jenkins was appointed as Chief Executive Officer and joined the organisation on 8 July 2026. Katherine brought over 24 years' experience working across health, social care and criminal justice sectors. Prior to her appointment, she served as Head of Family Support and Specialist Programmes at The Forward Trust and led the BSc (Hons) Addictions Counselling programmes at the University of Bath.
Her appointment provides the charity with a leader capable of balancing organisational performance with a deep understanding of the people and communities the organisation exists to support.
