Trustees
A highly successful trustee search saw Space Youth Services increase its planned appointments from two to three.
Appointing trustees to the board with complimentary skillsets is often important for long-term survival and organisational success, strengthening leadership and governance. Moon Executive Search supported Devon based charity Space Youth Services with such a search. Whilst initially Space Youth Services were looking to appoint two new trustees, the strength of the shortlist provided meant they ultimately decided to appoint three new trustees, offering a wider range of complementary skills to strengthen their governance.
Our approach
Led by Sandy Hinks, Moon developed a role specification and candidate profile for the two trustees they were looking to appoint and conducted a targeted search across charity, commercial and public sector networks. Conducting thorough market mapping and making direct approaches to suitable candidates. Assessment of candidates looked at their cultural fit, skills, values, and governance experience. DYS were particularly keen to secure trustees with legal, HR and governance experience. Moon was able to present Space Youth Services with a strong shortlist of candidates with the requisite skillset and values.
The outcome
The search concluded with three appointments, each bringing a distinct area of expertise while sharing a strong commitment to Space Youth Services’ mission and values.
Marcus Norton – Trustee, Legal, Governance & Charity Growth
Marcus brought a combination of legal expertise and hands-on experience of organisational growth within the charity sector. He practiced as a corporate and government lawyer before spending more than a decade with environmental charity CDP, where he supported the organisation’s growth from around 30 employees to more than 600 globally. He offered governance expertise combined with practical leadership experience.
Duncan King – Trustee, Commercial Strategy & Financial Leadership
Duncan stood out for the commercial and financial expertise he would bring to the Board as well as a unique perspective from his coaching role. With a senior leadership career that included responsibility for major transformation programmes and significant budgets, alongside an impressive track record as a trustee, he demonstrated financial discipline and strategic thinking.
Ailsa McGregor – Trustee, People, Culture & Organisational Development
Ailsa brought a very different but equally valuable skillset, centred on people, culture and organisational development. Her HR leadership and education background, supported by her previous experiences of large-scale organisational change, safeguarding, equality and inclusion made her application stand out.
“Thanks again for managing this process for us, we were really impressed by the quality of candidates and how seamlessly the whole process was managed.”
“It was a pleasure to support Space Youth Services with their recruitment. These three appointments addressed key governance skill gaps and strengthened expertise across legal, HR and commercial leadership within the organisation. We are immensely proud to support Space Youth Services as it continues to grow its services and reach beyond Devon.”
