The West of England Rural Network (WERN) supports rural communities across Bath & North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. They promote local initiatives and advocate for community needs with policymakers and service providers. Through these activities, WERN helps to build sustainable, resilient, and inclusive rural communities.
The organisation is building a new strategy designed to expand its community impact. This plan centres on key areas such as employment, essential services, affordable housing, and health and wellbeing. To help bring this vision to life, WERN is looking for a new Trustee to join the board.
Trustees play a key role in providing governance and strategic oversight. In this role, you would ensure the charity stays true to its core mission while making sure resources are used effectively. This includes reviewing financial decisions, exploring ways to diversify income, and working alongside the CEO to set and meet clear goals.
WERN is seeking a Trustee with a strong background in charity finance, particularly in managing restricted and unrestricted funds and long-term sustainability. The successful candidate will bring experience in financial oversight at a board or committee level, with a proven ability to interpret complex data and identify potential risks or anomalies.
In this role, you will analyse budgets, forecasts, and financial performance while providing constructive challenges and informed questioning. WERN is looking for an independent thinker with sound judgment who can hold leadership to account while fostering a supportive and collaborative culture.
This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute your expertise to a values-driven organisation and make a difference for rural communities. Whether you are an experienced trustee or stepping into your first trustee role, you’ll play a key part in shaping WERN’s impact.
