Sight Research UK champions and accelerates innovative eye disease research. Through targeted investment into the most promising science, they deliver meaningful impact for people living with sight loss.

Since 1986, the charity has invested nearly £18 million in pioneering research, bringing us ever closer to answering the most fundamental questions about eye health and disease. They fund research that is poised to provide new and more effective solutions for patients – be it in diagnosis, prevention, or treatment. Over the last two years, a thorough reassessment of priorities has resulted in a new, translational research funding strategy. This was accompanied by an overhaul of internal systems and procedures to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness for a small, but high-performing team.

Sight Research UK is entering a bold phase of growth, as they aim to turn scientific discoveries into real benefits for people with sight-threatening conditions. We’re supporting them to find a new Trustee who can raise their profile and expand their reach.

Trustees set the charity’s strategic direction, provide effective governance and maintain its financial stability. You will ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations and that resources are allocated effectively in pursuit of charitable objectives. Your marketing and relationship-building skills will help expand Sight Research UK’s network and diversify its income streams. Furthermore, you will represent the organisation publicly, acting as an ambassador and spokesperson when required.

The successful candidate will have a background in business development in either the commercial or charity sector. Your expertise and independent judgment will help determine strategy and inform decision-making. You will have excellent communication skills and a solid understanding of legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship. Finally, you will be committed to Sight Research UK’s mission and be passionate about working collectively to beat sight loss and blindness forever.
