For over six centuries, Bristol Charities has been a cornerstone of the community, providing support through quality almshouse accommodation, targeted grants, community infrastructure, and charitable workspace. With assets and expertise in property, housing, grants, and investment, they are uniquely placed to respond to Bristol’s pressing challenges, including poverty, housing need, educational inequality, and community resilience.
The organisation is embarking on an ambitious journey to transform the city through targeted community investments, innovative housing solutions, and pioneering charitable strategies. Their vision is clear: to collaborate and combat poverty in Bristol. They will achieve this by leveraging resources, experience, and networks to invest in Bristol's people and places, fostering innovation and creating lasting social impact.
Bristol Charities is seeking two new Trustees to help lead the organisation, with one also serving as Chair of their Investment Management Group. This is a remarkable opportunity to drive sustainable social change, shape the Charity's growing impact, and ensure the responsible stewardship of significant charitable assets. As a Trustee, you will:
- Provide oversight, governance, and leadership, adding value through their experience, expertise, and insights.
- Collaborate closely with the Chair, Chief Executive and Board, leading the organisation through changes in the sector.
- Help shape the organisation's culture, mission, aims, values and policies.
- Scrutinise organisational performance against agreed goals and objectives.
- Ensure robust financial quality controls and risk management systems are in place.
The ideal candidates will be adept at managing personal and corporate relationships, with experience in a people-centred organisation. They will possess a strong understanding of the Bristol area and demonstrate clear analytical intellect to guide rational decision-making. For the Chair of the Investment Management Group role, a background in the traditional or social investment sector is preferred. Both Trustees will be committed to the values of Bristol Charities and passionate about making a difference for people in need.
