The Bristol Benevolent Institution (BBI) is a long-established charity, proudly serving the Bristol area since 1869. They provide tailored support to older individuals (60+) living within the BS postcode area (covering Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire). Funded by an annual income of £750,000 from endowment capital, they are unique in that they do not fundraise, allowing their entire focus to remain on delivering support and impact.

BBI acts as a genuine lifeline by providing both regular and one-off assistance. This includes quarterly grants and specific support for essential items like furniture, flooring, and disability aids. Adding a thoughtful touch to their year-round care, BBI also distributes seasonal grants to help with winter heating costs, as well as providing welcome extras in the summer and around Christmas.

We are seeking a Chair of Trustees to lead their next chapter. They need a strategic, compassionate leader who can steer their mission. The role involves chairing quarterly board meetings, attending quarterly Finance Committee meetings, supporting the Secretary, and acting as a key ambassador for BBI across the region.

The Chair will bring a blend of experience and commitment. We are specifically looking for:

Senior leadership experience, preferably gained within the voluntary sector or while working with vulnerable communities.
Strong governance and financial oversight skills.
Ambassadorial flair coupled with a genuine understanding of the challenges faced by older, low-income residents in the local region.
