Active Gloucestershire seeks CEO

Key information:

  •  Location: Gloucester, UK.

  • Full-time: Hybrid and flexible working.

  • Salary: Up to £70k.

  • Closing date: 11th September 2025.

Active Gloucestershire inspires and enables people to improve their lives through physical activity. They believe movement is magic, and it has the power to transform lives and bring communities closer together.

The organisation is the Active Partnership for Gloucestershire, part of a nationwide movement to transform lives and communities through active lifestyles. Their vision is for everyone in Gloucestershire to live healthy and happy lives. This is delivered through we can move – a social movement committed to getting the region physically active. As we can move’s coordinating body, Active Gloucestershire works with many partners to promote an active, healthy lifestyle; from community and voluntary groups to schools, local authorities and national organisations such as Sport England.

The charity is seeking a Chief Executive to lead the next chapter of their story. This is no ordinary leadership role. As CEO, you’ll be the driving force behind their mission to help Gloucestershire move more. The role is about inspiring, connecting and leading – from shaping strategy to forging partnerships, from nurturing culture to unlocking resources. The essence of the role is about people, passion and purpose – and making a difference that lasts.

Your key responsibilities will include:

●      Leading the development and delivery of their strategy with the Board and team.

●      Advocating for physical activity across Gloucestershire and beyond.

●      Building trusted partnerships across health, education, local government and community sectors.

●      Ensuring good governance, safeguarding, and risk management are always front and centre.

●      Securing funding, diversifying income, and ensuring financial resilience.

●      Developing a motivated and inclusive team.

On behalf of Active Gloucestershire, we are seeking a strategic thinker with senior leadership experience in the charity, public or commercial sectors. You will have strong financial and governance skills alongside an entrepreneurial spark, which will help expand the charity’s impact. The successful candidate will love working with people – leading, developing and celebrating their success. They will know how to influence and build trust across systems and sectors, and be passionate about equity, inclusion and community-led change.
