St Margaret’s Hospice Care seeks Trustee (clinical)
Key information:
- Time commitment: Quarterly board meetings + biannual strategy half-days.
- Location: Somerset, UK.
- Closing date: 9th November 2025.
For over 45 years, St Margaret’s Hospice Care has been right at the heart of the Somerset community, offering compassionate, specialised palliative and end-of-life care when it matters most.
The hospice is a community-funded charity supporting adults of all ages who are facing a life-limiting illness. They ensure that the people of Somerset have access to free, tailored, and dignified care so they can focus on living well, not just managing their illness, until the end.
St Margaret's new five-year strategic journey is now underway. The organisation is using the invaluable lessons learned over the past four and a half decades to meet the challenges ahead. This strategy will innovate and secure hospice care for future generations in Somerset. The hospice is focused on evolving its services and finding new ways to fund their mission, ensuring it delivers the highest quality care for the next 45 years and beyond.
St Margaret’s is seeking a Trustee who can help ensure their effective governance and long-term sustainability. As a Trustee, you will be instrumental in delivering their new five-year strategy, providing sharp strategic oversight to define key goals and ensure alignment with their mission. Your responsibilities will include monitoring performance against key metrics and identifying and mitigating potential risks. You will also support the executive team in engaging with stakeholders, including donors, partners, regulators and beneficiaries.
We are seeking a senior leader and creative thinker with proven experience in long-term strategic development. The ideal candidate will have senior-level expertise in community health care, health, social care, or public health. This could stem from direct clinical practice, governance, commissioning, or system-level transformation. You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to challenge constructively while maintaining positive relationships. A thorough understanding of the legal duties and responsibilities of trusteeship is essential, underpinned by a passion for supporting adults with life-limiting illnesses.
