CEO
The Roles:
Southern Brooks
The Client:
The Charity works alongside partners to develop impactful projects. These initiatives focus on community development, wellbeing and health. Their core mission is to help individuals achieve what truly matters to them, whilst also influencing system partners to make a fairer, healthier more sustainable South Gloucestershire.
Southern Brooks has been working across South Gloucestershire supporting individuals and communities to thrive since 1988. Focusing on empowering individuals to focus on their strengths and what matters to them; supporting them through listening, signposting and support, and connecting people to each other and their community.
The organisation was seeking a Chief Executive Officer, to build on successes and set a clear direction for ongoing development. We previously worked with Southern Brooks, helping find Trustees who could advise on expanding commercial projects. They approached us for assistance with the CEO search based on the success of the placed trustees and our track record in executive level appointments.
They were looking for a proven leader, with experience developing and implementing an organisation’s strategy. Candidates needed to be skilled in sustainable financial management and knowledgeable about UK Charity regulations. Experience working in partnerships to deliver services was also highly desirable.
Head of Moon’s Charity Practice, Sandy Hinks, took the lead on this campaign. Sandy oversaw the previous search for Trustees, she understood the organisation’s culture and knew their leadership team well. Sandy and her search team conducted a regional advertising campaign to discover the most qualified local candidates, alongside a headhunting initiative to unearth skilled individuals from further afield. We whittled down the list of qualified candidates through our detailed screening and section process. In-depth interviews with the remaining candidates helped us determine their suitability for the role and organisation. Suzanne Wilson seriously impressed us throughout this process - we were confident she would make a huge impact. We’re delighted that Southern Brooks shared our opinion, and appointed her as CEO.
Suzanne impressed with her values-based leadership style. Her open and collaborative approach to leadership would flourish at Southern Brooks, considering their numerous specialised projects. She brings significant experience in the public and Charity sectors, including working with some of the same partners as Southern Brooks. Her expertise on the challenges community organisations face and how to support a strong community voice focusing on unlocking the strengths of community, was the clinching factor. We’re sure Suzanne will help Southern Brooks succeed in connecting people and transforming communities.
Sandy Hinks commented:
“It was a pleasure to work with Southern Brooks again. The CEO search campaign involved finding a leader with the appropriate skills and management style to suit working with many partners across different projects. Of the many talented candidates, Suzanne Wilson was perfectly suited to lead the Charity forwards.”
Harry Partington, Chair of the Board at Southern Brooks, commented:
“Sandy conducted a thorough and well-organised search, finding us a great new CEO. Suzanne ticked all our requirements. Her expertise and leadership are helping us support people in difficult circumstances to manage their own wellbeing and thrive and developing the organisation from strength to strength.”
