Inclusive Culture

There are multiple having a balanced workforce that reflects our society. The challenge in Executive Search is balance. There have been some shortlist requests for positive discrimination, but Moon always advocate that suitability should be based on qualification, experience, and skills.

However, there remains a significant challenge of bringing together a workforce with different perspectives and backgrounds, especially in the context of the pandemic.

Organisations must now invest in is how to ensure that the team feels comfortable contributing when WFH flexibility has presented an opportunity to help further the D&I agenda and the emphasis on mental health and inclusivity has broken through some of the social barriers that existed previously.

Our Clients

Many of our clients consider it crucial to improve their board membership and with that grow and enrich their business. A greater diversity of people brings a variety of skills and experience, which can deliver richer creativity, better problem solving and increased flexibility.

Clients fall into two camps; those that are acting on D&I for the first time and those that are increasing the pace of what they are already doing. Our clients have found that the applicant pool has widened due to fewer geographical restrictions which should also help with D&I agenda.

Our clients want to establish a robust succession plan that will provide them with the right leaders to continue innovating and creating stable growth for the future. When hiring new board members, we advise that our clients select their candidate based on values alignment when selecting the right candidate for their situation.

We offer advice to our clients, helping them to better understand the impact of diversity and hiring individuals that will bring a fresh perspective to their company.

Our Connections

Our network of connections covers every sector, community and areas of expertise. This allows Moon to present diverse shortlists that can add value to an organisation, facilitating change at an uncertain time.

More than ever, our clients are placing diversity and inclusion at the top of their list of criteria when considering a candidate shortlist. Diversity and Inclusion should be based on organisational principles as well as potential to provide a strategic advantage.

Our Candidates

The candidates that we speak to are even more aware of culture and D&I before agreeing to join an organisation. Boardroom diversity is built around highlighting the differences in the approach and experience of individuals and leaders must ensure their employees have a voice and influence in the company.

Giving employees the space to show their authentic selves will create a bond of trust and inspire collaborative work throughout the company and the stakeholders will see the benefits in their bottom line.

Board representation, diverse senior leadership, transparency in disclosing pay gaps and building an inclusive culture are hugely important. Diversifying boardrooms and workforces in both gender and race is no longer a moral issue but quite simply a bottom-line business imperative.

Utilising the rich talent of Britain is essential for any organisation that is looking to build resilience, and sustainable growth over the coming decade. We expect more demand for transformative candidates that can facilitate an open culture, develop inclusive leadership and implement board diversity so that the boards of Britain resemble the changing demographics of their customers.

Gap Reporting

Given that the Equality and Human Right Commission (EHRC) suspended gender pay gap reporting regulations for this year, expect gender pay equality to rise to the fore again in 2021 as compensation reporting feeds into the wider board representation discussion.

We expect more campaigning to consider Ethnicity Pay Gap Reporting in the future also. Many businesses are looking towards diversity and inclusion solutions by taking strategic action and implementing key metrics as a commitment from senior stakeholders where accountability is essential.

Firms are implementing four-day working weeks to help improve wellbeing and he and creating childcare policies to effectively meet the changing needs of the family when WFH which will help bring equality of access to the workforce.

REC Membership

Our membership with the REC gives us the opportunities to get involved in projects which increase social mobility, focusing on areas including the progression of low paid workers, disability employment, older workers and women in the workplace.

They lead and support programmes which help people from under-represented groups to progress in the workplace and as long-time members of the REC, we support them and follow their guidance.

Change the Race Ratio

Change the Race Ratio

Moon Executive Search became one of the First 50 signatories of Change the Race Ratio, a campaign to increase racial and ethnic participation in British businesses.

We believe in creating an inclusive culture in which talent from all diversities can thrive: focusing on recruitment and talent development processes to drive a more diverse pipeline.

The latest Parker Review report into ethnic diversity in UK Boards shows little progress has been made by businesses on implementing its recommendations: 37% of FTSE 100 and 69% of FTSE 250 companies surveyed still do not have any ethnic minority representation on their board.

There is a growing body of evidence that suggests that Diversity and Inclusion are an imperative for businesses.

  • The 2017 McGregor-Smith Review found that the lack of ethnic diversity in business is costing the UK £24 billion a year in lost GDP.

  • Deloitte research suggests when employees feel included in the workplace their ability to innovate increases by 83%.

As leading executive recruitment specialists, we understand the need to support young people to improve employability and ultimately reduce unemployment.

The Babbasa approach doesn't employ the traditional classroom-style teaching that has failed many of the young people they work with. They encourage the use of local resource, cultural references and language that resonate with young people.

Peaches Golding OBE CStJ Lord Lieutenant

Peaches works as a Non-Executive Consultant with Moon Executive Search. She is Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Bristol and Avon and has led on Diversity and Inclusion for decades.

Since 1996, she has worked with HRH The Prince of Wales to highlight the opportunities that greater access to employment, stronger communities, integrated supply chains and more visible leadership from black communities could bring to the country as a whole.

Peaches’ father was an incredible leader and educator that we wrote about in detail in our VE Day tribute.

‘There is a willingness among the population as a whole to call out injustice, prejudice and racial hatred. More importantly, there are those in power that are willing to drive through change to make society better, fairer, more just and productive. We can all act to create a better society and it is imperative to so do.’

Peaches is a continuous source of energy and enthusiasm and she inspires so much of the mission at Moon Executive Search, as well as so many other community programs across the South West and beyond.
